Agreement between the governments of Malaysia and Singapore for the latter's withdrawal from the federation. The initiative came from the Malaysian government, which was disturbed by the efforts of the Singapore Chinese organization (the People's Action Party, led by Lee Kuan Yew) to extend its influence elsewhere in Malaysia.  1

The sultan of Trengganu succeeded the raja of Perlis as paramount ruler of Malaysia, chosen by the Conference of Rulers for a term of five years.  2
