Switzerland formally applied for membership in the Common Market, reserving the right to withdraw if Swiss neutrality were prejudiced.  1

A national referendum approved the continuance of the anti-inflationary regulations of the government.  2

The federal Parliament voted to continue for five years the ban on the holding of land and other property by foreigners. There was much concern over the fact that there were more than 800,000 foreigners, chiefly Italian workers, in Switzerland, and systematic efforts were made to effect a gradual reduction in their numbers.  3
