Growing conflict between the ruling Socialist Party and the socialist trade union, UGT, over the government's policies to reduce inflation. The UGT demanded wage increases and policies to reduce the 20 percent inflation rate.  1

Agreement in principle to withdraw the U.S. Tactical Air Wing from Spain within three years of the ratification of such an agreement, and to reduce U.S. military and civilian personnel on the Torrejón base to fewer than 300, and on the Zaragosa base to fewer than 200.  2
