The treaty of friendship and nonaggression concluded with Portugal in 1939 was extended for ten years.  1

Gen. Franco paid a visit to Lisbon, demonstrating the close relations between Spain and Portugal.  2

The U.S. Congress recommended, with certain restrictions, a $62.5 million Marshall Plan loan for Spain. The loan represented a first step in the normalization of relations between the United States and Spain, and the beginnings of U.S. attempts to draw Spain into its Western anticommunist alliance.  3
 
Nov. 4
 
The UN adopted a resolution, sponsored by several Latin American states and supported by the United States, that rescinded the earlier resolution of Dec. 11, 1946, thus opening the door to Spain's admission to the postwar international community of nations.  4
