The eighth national economic plan was abandoned, and the interim plan of 1982–83 was implemented instead. These plans, along with the ninth plan, covering the years 1984–88, were followed much less closely by government and industry, because increased ministerial stability had largely replaced the need for a separate administrative planning office.  1

France established a fifth week of paid vacation and a 39-hour work week.  2

The French Parliament passed the nationalization law providing for the nationalization of most of the remaining privately owned portions of the banking sector, as well as the largest firms in the chemicals, steel, aviation, electronics, and telecommunications industries that had not been nationalized earlier.  3
