Formation of the National Abortion Campaign, an organization charged with defending the 1967 Abortion Act. Also in 1975, the women's movement scored a series of victories with the enactment of important legislation affecting women, including the Sex Discrimination Act, which established an Equal Opportunities Commission to enforce new laws, and the Employment Protection Act, which gave women a statutory right to paid maternity leave, protection from unfair dismissal during pregnancy, and the right to regain their job up to 29 weeks after giving birth. These gains were followed in 1976 by the Domestic Violence Act, which strengthened the procedures by which women could obtain an injunction to restrain a violent husband.  1
