United Nations International Criminal Tribunal in The Hague indicted eight Bosnian Serbs on charges of rape. This was the first time that rape was officially identified as a war crime.  2

The 11th International Conference on AIDS was held in Vancouver, Canada. Discussions centered around significant research gains and new drug treatments recently discovered, as well as the growing threat of AIDS in India.  3

The G7 countries, the world's seven largest economies, met to discuss increasing measures to prevent terrorism on an international basis and to impose punitive measures on terrorists.  4
 
Sept. 24
