Gen. Jiang Jieshi was elected president of the Chinese Republic by the Central Executive Committee, which also permitted him to retain his post as commander in chief of the Chinese army. The committee announced that democratic, responsible government would be established in China as soon as the war ended.  1

Jiang Jieshi was invited to join Franklin Delano Roosevelt (1882–1945) and Winston Churchill (1874–1965) at the Cairo Conference (See Dec. 4–6), where it was decided that after the war, Taiwan and Manzhouguo would revert to Nationalist control.  2
