The University of Helsinki became a bilingual institution in an attempt to ease tension between the Swedish and Finnish linguistic communities.  3

Jean Sibelius (1865–1957), composer, wrote his last major work, Tapiola. Sibelius was hailed as a national treasure in Finland, where his birthdays were national celebrations.  4
