The Renner cabinet resigned and was followed by a ministry of all parties under Michael Mayr.  1

A new constitution created a federal state on the Swiss model with eight provinces (Vienna a separate province) and a two-chamber legislature.  2

A dispute with Yugoslavia over the Klagenfurt area was decided by plebiscite in favor of Austria.  3
 
Oct. 17
 
The first regular elections resulted in a victory for the Christian Socialists (84 seats). The Socialists gained 69 seats, and the newly created Grossdeutsche Volkspartei (Greater German People's Party) won 20 seats. Michael Mayr retained the post of chancellor, and Michael Hainisch became the first president of the republic.  4
