A peace agreement was signed between the Employers Association and the unions in the Swiss engineering and metalworking industries. This agreement long served as the basis for employer-employee relations and contributed to the relatively small number of strikes that occurred after 1937.  1

Romansch was recognized as a fourth national (though not official) language. This was a step designed to win renewed support from the cantons most directly exposed to Italian designs.  2
