July. The first film shown in India was presented by the Lumiere brothers in Bombay; in the next year it was shown in South India. By 1900 films were presented regularly. The first Indian feature film was made in 1912; Bombay (Urdu films) and Madras (Tamil regional films) became the two largest centers of production. Film conventions rested in large part on public enactments, both popular and classical. (Contemporary India is home to the largest film industry in the world.)  1
