Louis Pio founded the Danish branch of the International and began publication of the Socialisten. Pio called for a mass demonstration in support of striking building workers (1872), and his violent and revolutionary rhetoric eventually led to his arrest. The International was outlawed as well. In 1876, the Social Democratic Party was founded.  1

Iceland was given a large measure of home rule.  2
Realism in literature and art. The works of Jens Jacobsen and Holger Drachmann contributed to literature, while the “Skagen School” of Danish painters, so called because they gathered on the Skaw in the 1870s, followed the style of realism in art.  3
