Renewal of the campaign against Austria. The Austrians took Genoa (June 4) after a horrible famine. Napoleon crossed the St. Bernard Pass in May with 40,000 men to attack the flank of the Austrians. He engaged them and won at the Battle of Marengo (June 14). The Austrian general Melas agreed to a truce. Moreau, commanding the French forces of the Rhine, took Munich (July). | 1 |
